Good value enterprise SSDs

Would anyone be crazy enough to buy a high quality HP/Dell/Lenovo server and install third party SSD disks? 

It all comes down to your budget and risk profile, but the good news is using third party disks won't affect your server warranty and they work. Do your research on the usual forums, here are a few guidelines:
  • Use them in RAID configuration so even if a drive fails data is still not lost
  • Use in non-production first for a few months before considering use in production
  • Purchase spare drives in case of failure
  • Have good backups
It is interesting to note that none of the server vendors make their own SSD disks, they simply take an industry standard drive, possibly flash their own firmware and then more than double or even triple the price:
