The percentage of Australia’s population with a Bachelor’s degree is high by international standards.

In recent years the number of students has increased as a share of the population, with 2006 census data showing 32.6% of 20-year-olds attending university or other tertiary institutions, in the 2011 census this increased to 36.6%Once 2016 census data is released I estimate with current growth trend this will rise again to around 40%.

In 2011 the percentage of the population aged 15 and above with a Bachelor’s degree or higher (18.8%) was over nine times the figure for 1971 (2%).
