Muslims in the Middle East

Less than 15 per cent of the world's Muslims are Shiite, or Shia; most Muslims are Sunni. Some people will have us believe that sectarianism, a form of bigotry, discrimination between Shiite and Sunnis is causing conflict in the Middle East, yet as Muslims they generally share more similarities than differences, and when not disturbed by outside forces or those with political agendas Sunnis and Shia generally live quite comfortably with each other. But the Arab Spring has brought a seismic shift in the sectarian landscape. With civil war and political chaos rippling through the region, the deadly divide now runs through the Muslim world itself:
