Amazon is less than a day away from launching their online retail service in Australia with a soft launch set for Thursday afternoon. This means that you will soon be able to buy everything from food to electronics without paying exorbitant international shipping fees.

Amazon will mark the launch with nationwide public marketing activities on Thursday, including an ice cream giveaway at Southern Cross station in Melbourne.

Amazon's decision to finally bring its online shopping platform to Australia is huge news.

Australia have set a soft launch date of 2pm AEST, Thursday November 23. During this time, only a limited number of customers will be able to access and use the site. The site will be live and fully operational the following day: Black Friday, November 24.

Local retailers will need to adapt if they hope to compete.
